Monorail Control
Welcome Team

“I joined Alton Towers Resort in May 2006 on the Monorail as a fixed-term station host. Having graduated in 2003 in Material Science and Engineering, I found my first job out of Uni really monotonous - I was a researcher for an aerospace company. Instead I wanted something where I would get variety everyday and Alton Towers Resort was the answer!

Working my way up

“I trained initially as a Monorail Driver and in 2007 I received further development to become Monorail Control – the first point of contact and escalation for all Monorail issues. I became a permanent member of staff at the end of 2007 and now work on maintenance during the winter - doing everything from stripping down the monorail and rebuilding it to repainting the station - before then moving back to my role as Monorail Control in the summer.

“Due to my focus on customer satisfaction I also went on to be nominated for, and later become, a Resort Ambassador. This means that I get to go to business lunches with the management team and look at different ways of achieving great service – all of which makes me feel extremely well recognised.

Give it a try

“I love working here as I meet different people everyday and find myself in a variety of situations. And most of all I have the freedom to develop myself.

“If you’re not sure if this is the place for you though, give it a go and see what it’s like. It’s hard work - you’re outside a lot of the time in all weathers - but it’s really liberating not being tied to a desk. You might join initially as a cashier or as a host, but if you decide further along the line that you need a change of direction, you can talk to your manager about it.  We’re particular about who we recruit though, so you need to be presentable, confident with people and, of course, punctual and reliable!”
